The Timeclocks FAQ section furnishes responses to commonly asked questions regarding fundamental concepts encompassed within Timeclocks.

  1. Is there a way for Employees to continue to punch on the Timeclock, even if our store loses power?
    Yes! You can purchase a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) for the Timeclock. The UPS will allow the Timeclock to stay powered on and collect punches. Once the internet is back up and running and/or power is restored the Timeclock will send the punches to the server.

    Depending on the size of the UPS these batteries can last for several hours or days (give or take). A small PC UPS will last hours.

  2. How do I add ("Push") Punch Users to Timeclocks?
    We call this "pushing" Users. The process of pushing Timeclock Users should be run every time there is a new User added to the system that needs to be able to punch using a Timeclock. Additionally, you can run this Maintenance if you want to update a User with PIN changes for clocking In/Out on a Timeclock.

    • Using the Navigation Pane access the Timeclock Maintenance by navigating to Maintenance > Timeclock.

    • From there, click on “Manage Timeclocks”.

    • Sync LightWork Kiosk Configuration to get everything up-to-date on all the Timeclocks.
      Note: The refresh button to the left of the Sync button allows you to do a hard refresh to the heartbeat and other Timeclock information. This will allow you to see the most updated information possible.

    • Next, click on the Push Users section.

    • Once here, you’ll be able to designate which Users you’d like to move, where you’d like to move the User from, and the end location you’d like to push Users to.

    Pushing Timeclock Users includes making selections in the “From” section;

    • When the option “Punch Users” is selected this means that you will be pushing Users from the LightWork core system and not from a specific Timeclock.

    • Selecting “Clock” allows you to choose from a drop-down which specific Timeclock you’d like to push Users from.

    • Selecting “All Clock Users” allows you to push all the Users associated with the “From” location selected.

    Pushing Timeclock Users includes making selections in the “To” section;

    • When the option “All Clocks” is selected this means that you will be pushing Users to all Timeclocks allowing Employees selected to be able to clock in using any Timeclock that is part of your system.

    • Selecting “Specific Clock” allows you to choose from a drop-down which specific Timeclock you’d like to push Users to, thus controlling which Users can punch at which timeclock or which Timeclock you update at one time.

    Once you’ve checked over the selections and are ready, proceed to “Queue Punch Users” which will prompt a confirmation pop-up. After selecting “Yes” on that confirmation pop-up the system will push all biometric information and User information to the selected Timeclocks from the location you’ve selected.

  3. Can I check if a Punch User is assigned to a specific Timeclock?
    Navigate to Maintenance > Timeclock > Manage Timeclocks > Push Users.

    Within the "From" section, Users can select “Clock” and “Selected Clock Users” which allows you to review all the Users associated with a specific Timeclock. You can filter and search using an Employee’s name or ID and if they show up in this list you know they’re currently an available User on the selected Timeclock.

  4. How can I check my Timeclock’s last heartbeat?
    Navigate to Maintenance > Timeclock > Manage Timeclocks.

    In this “Manage Timeclocks” section, you can monitor all your Timeclocks’ “last heartbeat” which is the last time that the clock checked in with the LightWork system. All of these times should be relatively close. If you see that there is one Timeclock with a vastly different heartbeat than the others and you're a named support user for your organization, you can reach our team to open a support ticket at support@lightworksoftware.com.
